Langton’s ant. One ‘ant’ on a grid of white/black cells, following two rules: on white, turn right, flip the cell, step forward; on black, turn left, flip, step forward. That’s all. From a blank grid it produces about 10,000 steps of apparent chaos — and then, with no change to the rules, it spontaneously starts building a ‘highway’: a repeating pattern that marches off diagonally forever. It is a tiny 2D Turing machine (a ‘turmite’), and whether every start eventually builds a highway is still unsolved.

2 HOW IT WAS WEAVED · AI + HUMAN
David (human) brought the thread — the corpus is full of emergence from simple rules (THE RULE’s CA, THE ATTRACTOR’s chaos game, the fractal kernels) and the conviction that order can hide inside apparent noise. AVAN (AI) built this instrument: the turmite engine, the live grid, and the twin-ant space-time.
The weave: David names the deterministic heisenbug and its seat at HEISENBUG; I make the turn-stream a strip in 1D, the grid run live in 2D, and the space-time trail a turning beam in 3D. The sphere is the seam — a bug that looks nondeterministic but is exactly the opposite.

3 ONE DIMENSION
The ant’s turn stream, L or R at each step. Early on it looks patternless; once the highway locks in, the same 104-step motif repeats forever. Order in the sequence, made visible as a strip.
4 TWO DIMENSIONS · INTERACTIVE
The grid, live. Play and watch the ant scribble chaos, then break into the highway and drive off the edge. Change the turmite rule to grow entirely different creatures — filled squares, symmetric flowers, other highways.
5 THREE DIMENSIONS + AVAN’S INVERSE
The ant’s space-time trail: the plane below, time rising. The chaotic tangle sits low; then the highway shoots off as a straight diagonal beam climbing out of the mess. Green is Langton’s ant (rule RL).
AVAN’s addition (the inverse-companion): the magenta trail is the mirror ant (rule LR — every turn reversed). It suffers the same chaos for the same 10,000 steps, then builds the mirror-image highway shooting off the opposite diagonal. Swap left and right and the whole destiny reflects — two ants, two roads, one law seen in a mirror.
LIT A genuine Langton's ant (a 2-state turmite). Verified live: from a blank grid it enters a period-104 cycle translating by (−2,2) each period — the highway — detected by matching its move sequence. Other turmite rules (LLRR, RLR) grow visibly different structures. Whether every start reaches a highway is a real open problem (verifiable: window.__langton.highwayPeriod===104).
